課程概述

由每一位修課學生需針對特定主題選取一篇原著生物統計方法或理論型論文進行口頭報告並回答問題,其他同學則需評論與提問。
Each student in the course has to choose an original methodology or application paper in a specific topic of biostatistics for oral presentation in the assigned class time and needs to respond the comments and questions from students and teachers in the class. Other students will need to make comments and questions on the presentation. 

課程目標
本課程藉由生物統計理論與方法相關文獻之閱讀報告與討論,學習如何發掘及定義生物統計之研究議題,進而培養獨立解決問題的能力;本課程並磨練生物統計人員必備之表達及溝通以及學術專業寫作能力。

This course requires reading and discussions on original methodology or application paper to learn how to discover and define research topics, and to develop independent problem-solving skills. This course also hones the necessary skills for biostatisticians, including expression, communication and academic writing.

III. 上課方式
1. 論文選擇與上傳:
Selection and uploading of papers
(1) 由每一位修課學生針對特定主題,選取一篇原著生物統計方法或理論型論文於安排時間進行口頭報告。
Each student in the course has to choose an original methodology or application paper in a specific topic of biostatistics for oral presentation in the assigned class time.
(2) 所選論文必須於報告前4週上傳於CEIBA上,以作為評論同學及修課同學聽取報告時之準備工作。
The selected papers must be uploaded to the CEIBA 4 weeks prior to the presentation such that the students can prepare their comments for the presentation.

2. 報告時間與方式:
Time and mode of presentations
(1) 修課學生每人報告之時間約為30~40分鐘,請斟酌投影片頁數。
Each student in the course will have about 30 to 40 minutes to give a presentation. Please consider the page number of slides.
(2) 在口頭報告最末必須提供1-2頁投影片,並口頭以英文表達整個報告總結。 At the end of the presentation, you must provide 1-2 pages of slides and summarize the whole report orally in English.

3. 評論與討論:
Comments and discussions
(1) 每次報告之後,有20~40分鐘討論時間,由3-4位事先指定的同學擔任評論員進行評論,報告同學則針對評論意見進行回應。
After each presentation, there is 20 to 40 minutes for discussion. Three or four students appointed in advance will act as commentators to make comments and raise questions for the oral presentation in each class, and other students will be encouraged to join the discussion. The report student needs to respond the comments and questions.
(2) 評論同學可評論該論文內容也可提出問題,請於上課前先將評論與問題上傳於CEIBA上。
You may comment on the content of the paper or ask questions. Please post your comments and questions on CEIBA before class.
(3) 授課教師們也會視情況指定在場同學發問或提供意見。
In each class, lecturers will provide comments, suggestions, and overall evaluation according to the oral presentation and questions to let students learn how a variety of current statistical methods developed, compared (using simulation studies), used in health sciences research (how to design, collect data, and conduct statistical analysis), as well as their presentations, interpretations and limitations.

4. 其他事項皆可課堂提出或討論。
